Myth, Reality, Mythology:  The Complexity of Jewish Identity
Presented by congregant Marissa Rubin along with Brett Rubin and Judy Weiss

Program- 5:30-6:30, followed by dinner, discussion and dessert.

Come see the 32-poster exhibit that was displayed at New Trier High School last spring.  These posters were developed to foster curiosity, discussion, and reflection about the complexity of Jewish identity in today’s world. They address such questions as: Is Jewishness a race? What does antisemitism look like today?  What is the relationship between Jewish identity, the origins of the comic book industry, and modern society?   Our time together will be a chance to meet the creators, learn the origin story of the exhibit, and engage in guided discussion with fellow congregants.

Brett Rubin, Marissa Rubin, and Judy (Weiss) Schachter have over 50 years of combined experience teaching high school literature and language.  Colleagues at New Trier High School, they are excited to share with you their contribution to the conversation about identity at New Trier.  Judy is a Beth Emet congregant, and Marissa belongs to Temple Beth-El in Northbrook and is currently New Trier's Modern and Classical Languages Department Chair.
