The evening includes a cooking demonstration, a delicious vegetarian tasting menu and a presentation about Chef Basson's 40 years as a chef and restaurant owner in Jerusalem as well as his book The Eucalyptus Cookbook.
Moshe Basson (Hebrew: משה בסון; born 1950) is an Israeli chef, restaurateur, and food folklorist. An early proponent of the Slow Food movement in Israel, he is the owner and head chef of The Eucalyptus restaurant in Jerusalem. He specializes in traditional regional cuisine, biblical ingredients, and the use of wild plants and herbs that he gathers himself on foraging expeditions in the Jerusalem hills. He is a member of the Israeli-Palestinian group Chefs for Peace and a two-time winner of the international Couscous Fest in Italy.
In The Eucalyptus Cookbook, Chef Moshe Basson conveys religion, history, personal experiences of a specific place and time through culinary art and the impact of food and its' ability to motivate people to come together. Through the eyes of this renowned Jerusalem chef and owner of the Eucalyptus, an innovative restaurant that has been thriving for 36 years, personal stories come to life along with modern and ancient history and folklore as Chef Basson explores the culinary gems of one of the most ancient and diverse cities in the world.
The Vegetarian Tasting Menu Includes:
Jacob and Esau lentil stew
Mushroom stuffed figs in tamarind sauce
Fatayer- pastries stuffed with greens and sumac
Iraqi breakfast- sabich sandwich with fried eggplant, eggs, tahini, amba and vegetables
Cost to attend is $80 for the first person (includes one cookbook) and $36 for each additional person.
Cookbooks are also available for purchase ($45 each).
