Wayne Shapiro and his family (wife, Susan and children, Max, Nikki, and Jodi) have been members of Temple Beth-El for many years. Prior to becoming President in 2012, Wayne served on the Board of Directors and as Vice-President of Religious Activities. He has also served on the nominating committee. Wayne has temple leadership in his blood. His father, Norman, was President of Congregation Rodfei Shalom- Or Chodesh in the 1960's and his uncle Arthur was President of Loop Synagogue in 2003-04.
Wayne grew up on the south side of Chicago and was a member of Rodfei Shalom where he was a regular Torah reader, Bar Mitzvah Club President, an officer in both his USY Chapter and of the CHUSY Region. He is a veteran of many national and regional USY conventions. Wayne also served from 1998-2000, as President of Makom Shalom, Chicago's original Jewish renewal community in Printer's Row. During the day, Wayne is an attorney in private practice in Chicago.
