Rabbi Jeffrey Weill

Short stories pack a powerful punch.  In this fun class, we will read and discuss short, short stories - three to six pages- by our literary masters, like Sholem Aleichem, Isaac Bashevis Singer, S.I. Agnon, and Woody Allen, and Philip Roth.  These stories explore issues like persecution, identity, and tradition in the lost world of the shtetl (Jewish village), in Israeli society, and in America.  We may even look at short stories from Midrash.  Most of the stories will be brief enough to read and discuss in class. They will be both funny (of course) and at time poignant.

Judah Ha-Nasi was completing the Mishnah, or Rambam was practicing medicine in Spain? Then come, explore and discuss the world in which we live.
